It is a long journey home from Gondia. First a 2-hour train journey to Nagpur, then a half-hour auto journey to the airport and then a 1-hour wait before the 1.5-hour flight to Delhi. And this repeats on the way back in reverse order and continues every month.
But travelling in the Indian Railways is fun. It is like the real India. Travelling to Bhopal on an overnight journey in the sleeper class was a different experience altogether. The smell of the human waste on the tracks, the sound of the announcements, hoping for no delays on your train, the crowd pushing around to get out and to get in- train journeys were a long lost experience for me.
